Does your company show up in ChatGPT answers? How to improve your visibility in AI search

In short
  • More and more people find services by asking an AI assistant instead of browsing search results.
  • AI assistants favor pages that answer the question directly and whose basic details are consistent everywhere.
  • You can check where you stand in five minutes, and fixing the fundamentals improves your visibility in both Google and AI tools.

AI search visibility means whether your company gets mentioned when a customer asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot or Perplexity something like “good e-commerce agency in Vaasa”. An AI assistant doesn’t show ten blue links. It puts together a single answer that mentions only a few companies. This is called GEO (generative engine optimization) and AEO (answer engine optimization). The good news: the foundation is the same as good SEO.

Check where you stand in five minutes

  1. Ask like a customer. Type the questions your customers would use to find you into three different AI assistants, for example “who builds WooCommerce online stores in Ostrobothnia?”
  2. Record the result. Are you mentioned? Is a competitor mentioned? Is the information about you correct?
  3. Ask directly. “What do you know about company X?” reveals what the AI has learned about you and from which sources.

Repeat this once a month. It becomes a simple metric that shows whether your visibility is improving.

What do AI assistants value?

AI assistants build their answers from information available online. They favor sources where the answer is easy and reliable to extract:

  • A direct answer right at the start. A page that answers the question in the first paragraph is more likely to be quoted than one that spends three paragraphs warming up.
  • Clear structure: headings, lists, tables and FAQs.
  • Consistent basic details. Name, address, services and contact details in the same format on your website, your Google Business Profile and in directories.
  • Machine-readable data. Structured data (schema.org) states directly what the company is, what it does and where.
  • Mentions elsewhere: case studies, customer stories and articles where your company name appears in the right context.
AI doesn’t recommend whoever has the biggest ad budget. It recommends the company whose information it understands and trusts.

Technical foundation: fast, structured, indexable

Great content doesn’t help if search engines and AI crawlers can’t access it. First we check that the site is indexed correctly, pages load fast on mobile too, and the heading structure is logical. Then we add structured data. The same technical health also lifts your Google rankings, so the work pays off on both fronts.

Write a page for each of your services that answers “what is this, who is it for and what does it cost”. Those are exactly the pages AI assistants quote.

Content that answers real questions

The best content comes from your customers’ real questions. Go through what sales and customer service get asked every week, and answer those questions clearly on your site. Every good answer is a potential quote in an AI response and a strong search result in Google.

We help you assess your current visibility and fix the structure, content and technical foundation. Read more about our AI services and search engine optimization.

FAQ

What do GEO and AEO mean?

GEO (generative engine optimization) and AEO (answer engine optimization) mean optimizing content and websites so that AI assistants and answer engines mention your company in their answers. They extend SEO rather than replace it.

Can you buy visibility in ChatGPT?

You can’t buy an organic mention in an AI answer. You influence it the same way as search visibility: with clear content, consistent basic details, structured data and mentions in trusted sources.

How quickly does AI search visibility improve?

Technical fixes usually show up in search engines within weeks. AI models update their information at varying intervals, so track changes monthly using the same questions.
